Humane training to help people see the best in their dogs

Virtual and private coaching for people and their dogs

 TRAINING METHODS

Much has changed in the training world over the last few decades but there is still a lot of outdated knowledge being shared and the media is no help. Many of the once popular "traditional" training methods relied heavily on coercion and aversive techniques to force dogs to cooperate in order to avoid pain or punishment. These methods, while appearing to work in the short term also came with fallout and a relationship between handler and dog built on fear rather than trust.

Luckily, those methods have never stood up to the modern science of animal behavior and learning theory. The most reliable and safe way to train dogs is with Positive Reinforcement which focuses on working WITH our dogs, not AGAINST them. This doesn't mean that we let our dogs get away with everything but rather than focusing on what we don't want them to do, we can focus on what we do want them to do and setting up their environment for them to be successful.

Reward based training = rewarding relationship with your dog

ABOUT YOUR TRAINER

Hi! I'm Caitlin Wolfe, Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA). I have been professionally training dogs for over 12 years. My experience is vast but includes early puppy training, basic manners, leash skills, house training, reactivity, fear aggression, separation anxiety and therapy dog training. While building my business I worked for 6 years in the animal welfare industry, training shelter dogs with vastly different temperaments, sizes and ages. I do not believe in a one size fits all approach. I see each dog as an individual and train according to their specific needs, following a modern approach rooted in science. I want each dog and owner(s) to have the best communication with one another. No matter what your current training needs are, I can help you achieve them!

Basic Manners
  • Where does training take place?
For those pursuing in person training, the initial consultation and all follow up sessions will take place in your home or an agreed upon neutral location. For those interested in online training, the sessions take place via Zoom.
  • Is it required to purchase a training package?
Yes, for new clients. For best success at working with you to modify your dogs behavior, 4 sessions minimum is needed to be able to cover all areas and see initial progress. Current or former clients can pay per session after completing an initial program.
  • Do I need to pay at the time I schedule the consultation?
The consultation fee is due at the time of scheduling to secure your scheduled time. This will be sent as an invoice to you via email. At the conclusion of the consultation, you can decide to pay for the remaining balance of the program you choose or wait until you have received the individual training plan for your dog.
  • How often do we meet for training sessions?
Ideally, weekly or bi-weekly sessions are recommended. At times, certain behaviors may do best with more time in between sessions to implement the exercises and recommendations. Each clients schedule needs and my availability play a role as well.
  • Do we need to schedule out all sessions purchased in a package ahead of time?
This is highly recommended. My schedule can fill up weeks in advance. Scheduling all sessions in advance can ensure that we are able to meet in a timely manner, without needing to have large gaps in between sessions. Sessions do not automatically get scheduled for the next week at the same date and time unless you schedule through my scheduling platform or with me directly in person or via email or text.
  • What if I need to reschedule a session?
Outside of emergencies or illness; 24 hour notice is required to cancel or reschedule a scheduled session. Notice less than 24 hours will result in forfeiting that session.
  • Where are you located and what cities do you service?
As of July 1st, 2023 we are located in Southern California (San Gabriel Valley). Pasadena, South Pasadena, Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Bradbury, Monrovia and Duarte are the cities that we service for in person training. We work world wide via zoom for many different training programs, our most popular being Separation Anxiety.
  • Do you offer board and train services?
At this time, I do not offer board and train programs. I do offer day training programs, where I work with your dog in your home or at neutral locations (doggie field trip!) while you are away at work or working from home.
  • Do you offer group classes?
I am actively looking for locations (both indoor and outdoor) to be able to host group classes. Please check back!
